Description
Captain Alfred Hutton, who created the amateur fencing association in 1895, and Colonel George Fox, who is one of the authors of the concept of the gymnasium saber realized that it is more convenient to fence with a lightened sword than with a military saber when you do sports. Therefore, they decided to straighten the “saber,” lighten it, give it better balance for the needs of a duel for points and unify it a little for the fun of competitions in the European historical sport – fencing.
Subsequently, it became known as sports fencing or Olympic fencing.
Thus, this saber is a product of a new era in fencing development when the martial content and intentions gave way to purely sporting use. And here, the wishes of amateur fencers from the end of the 19th century coincided with the wishes of amateur fencers of our time, tailored for sporting results.
